Kitchen Renovations - Getting Started

Here you are, you have decided it's time to do a kitchen renovation and you are not sure how or where to get started.  This is a common stumbling block in getting the wheels in motion. I suggest making a visit to your local home show, reading through some magazines and talking to some friends that may have been through a kitchen renovation themselves and can help make some suggestions. 

A kitchen renovation is probably going to be the most money you will spend on an interior renovation in your home so you will want to do it right the first time.  The number one decision you will make is finding a kitchen contractor that can handle your renovation and designing needs. (Some people will hire an interior designer that will handle the entire renovation.) 

Once you've done your homework it is time to start picking your products. This can be the most stressful part of your renovation as everyone seems to second guess most of the decisions they make, but I have found this to be the fun part as you are now putting together the pieces of the puzzle to bring everything together. I will usually suggest the client start with picking out a style of cabinet door, picking your floor, countertop and backsplash. Lately however, I have been taking customers to York Fabrica to pick out their countertop first because I am finding that customers are picking a countertop that they fall in love with after the cabinets have been ordered and sometimes the colours don't match. There are so many remarkable solid surface countertops like granite, marble, quartz and onyx and this is likely the best place for you to start the hunt for your dream kitchen.
